“Everything is permissible” – but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible” – but not everything is constructive. Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.
Paul, in 1 Corinthians 10:23-24
Our next sermon series is just around the corner. In a few days, we will begin our “We Need to Talk” series dealing with significant issues that followers of Christ face living in the world today. I trust that you will engage prayerfully and will participate in such a way that you (and me too) will be open to being challenged and encouraged. For a list of the topics and dates, please watch the preview video at the bottom of this post. Teaser alert: this Sunday (February 18th) deals with the issue of alcohol (and other related substances).
As we approach the next few weeks, I am inviting you to consider a few things:
- Pray. Please pray specifically for those who are preparing to tackle these issues. Pray for wisdom and clarity.
- Talk. Take the risk and have a conversation about the topics we will address. Yes, conversations can be challenging and difficult, but let’s talk openly and graciously.
- Remember. Remember that it is okay if we don’t always agree with each other. Let’s not allow that to stop our dialogue. (And yes, as a pastor, I do LOVE hearing from you!)
- Commit. The plan is to include a bulletin insert every week with some discussion/reflection questions, as well as some ideas about how we may commit to respond. Utilize this resource (we will also post in online).
I’m looking forward to this series. I trust you are as well. I hope that our commitment to providing relevant and practical teaching will also encourage you to invite your friends to join you at church. Let’s work diligently at welcoming people into our midst.
See you on Sunday!
