Here’s a picture of the crew I’m working with, beside the 14 by 16 ft house we are working on.
The temperature is hot and humid, almost oppressive at times. Rain usually comes down in showers – a welcome relief to get a little wet in the heat. We had a substantial rain the other day, which is good for the cistern – our shower/wash water.
Here is a picture of the lady for whom we are building the little house (behind her). She shares the property with her daughter and son-in-law, and this 14 by 16 ft house will be her bedroom.
The whole family is very appreciative of what we’re doing. Last Thursday, my “crew” of 4 were invited to their extended family Thanksgiving dinner. This coming Saturday, the whole group of volunteers (17 in total) are invited to their place for a BBQ.
Overall it’s going well! We’re probably starting a new work project soon.
This is the most beautiful Catholic church on the island of Saipan. The island people consider themselves largely Catholic, although I would say, very nominal in practice.
The disparity between rich and poor is more evident here than back home. Feral dogs and chickens remind me of my growing up years in Paraguay, in the native settlements.
Thanks for keeping me/us in your prayers,
