The Mexico team greets you all!
Since the team got so much work done on their first two days of building houses, day 3 on the job sites felt more relaxed and allowed them for more time to play with the children. “I have never seen children play with kites for so many hours.” – Team member. That evening, they got to experience a local Mexican church and they embraced the colourful culture with dancing and singing. They heard a testimony from a member of the church and also were able to share a few of their own.
When the houses were completed, the team felt so blessed to see the families’ excitement for their houses and for simple needs. After a generous lunch provided by those families, they dedicated the houses. Then they went out to a local community and handed out all of the clothes, soccer balls and quilts (sewn by members of our church). They also had the opportunity to go on a tour of a women’s rehab centre: Mujeres Nuevos Comienzos (new beginnings for women) There was a lot of interest sparked and hopes for this being a future ministry to serve.
On their last day in Vicente Guerrero, Mexico, they took a tour of the local orphanage (where we served two years ago), went to the local market, and enjoyed some time at the beach.
Their travels back to the USA went well – with almost no lineup at the border! They explored Coronado island and after stopping at the hotel, got In-n-Out burger for dinner.
They had a rough time when some of them got the flu and felt pretty green. Thanks to the healing hand of God, all have recovered and are serving in some capacity at Gleanings for the Hungry in California!
