It's been a month already!
Dear Friends and Family,
It's already been one month since we returned back to Germany. Time has flown by! We have spent time renewing visas, preparing sermons, hosting visitors from Canada and doing one on one visits. However, our highlight of the month was definitely the weeklong "Ferienspiele" (summer camp) that the church put on; and most of our time was directed towards preparing for and participating in this camp.
"McDu, seid ihr bereit!"
This is the last line of a song that was sung at the beginning of every day at camp. It means, "Are you ready for McDu?" We were definitely ready and excited to participate in McDu. We had heard so much about this yearly event, and it did not dissapoint. From the first moment it was clear that this camp has a very good reputation in the community. Kids were lined up outside the gate half and hour early, waiting to come in. Kids from all sorts of backgrounds: Muslim, Yezidi, Christian, State Church, German, Russian, Iraqi, Turkish, Greek and more. Below are some pictures for some impressions of the camp.
"Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honoured by every nation. I will be honoured throughout the world." Psalm 46:10
I read this verse during my quiet time on Wednesday morning during camp week. I shared it with our volunteers and we prayed about this to start the day. That evening God revealed his power through a magnificent storm that had everyone concerned at times. As we debriefed in the evening we heard that several leaders saw children accept Christ's salvation that day, children from different backgrounds. A day later a boy that I mentioned during our sharing times in Canada also accepted Christ. God was fulfilling his promises. He was being honoured by children of multiple nations! All we had to do was be still and watch him work!
It was a joy for us to serve together with the church at the McDu summer camp. Although the days were long and tiring, it was exciting to sense God's presence and the doors he was opening. It was also encouraging to be a part of a group of volunteers who were of "one mind and one spirit" during this week. In short, it was a lot of fun!
Now we move on to the next step, which is following up with the relationships that were made and strengthened during McDu. This has historically been a major challenge for the church. Please pray that God would give us and the church wisdom and a desire to continue investing in the lives of the children in this community.
Thank you to each one of you for your partnership in what God is doing here in Germany. Especially during the McDu summer camp we saw the power of prayer and are grateful for how you are praying! We appreciate each one of you so very much and really enjoyed reconnecting with you during our time back in Canada.
Praise God for:
- Those who accepted him
- His provision, protection and presence during McDu Camp
- The open doors he gave us into the community
- The new relationships we were able to build
- The Spirit of unity among the camp volunteers
Please Pray for:
- The protection and growth of the faith of those who accepted Christ
- The follow-up work with new believers
- This weekend. Jolene & I will be helping at an International Youth Retreat taking place in Bielefeld
